Welcome to Alaska Alpine Outfitters. AAO is a small, personalized guiding operation that takes a limited number of people hunting annually. We specialize in Dall sheep. We also offer Mountain Goat and Brown/Grizzly bear hunts.


Although we may utilize livestock or various forms of mechanized travel; like planes or boats to access the hunt area, essentially all of our hunts are backpack style hunts.

The mountains aren't getting any flatter but if you show up in shape and can handle carrying a 45 to 50 pound backpack about five miles a day, your chances of success are very high.


Sheep hunting isn't easy, but like most things in life anything worth doing usually isn't. It's imperative to be in shape for your hunt; the end result will be a more enjoyable, and more often than not, a more successful experience.




Sheep
  • August 10 through September 20
Mountain Goat
  • Mid September through mid October
    • If you draw a permit, certain season dates run to the end of November
Brown/Grizzly
  • Usually offered as a combination package to a sheep hunt in the fall
    • Depending on the year, bear hunts may be offered in the Spring
 

Unlike some outfitters we are licensed to guide sheep hunts in all mountain ranges that have huntable sheep populations. The main hunt area for sheep is located in the Brooks Range above the Arctic Circle. We also concentrate a lot of effort to the special draw areas located in the Chugach and Alaska Mountain Ranges. The Mountain Goat hunts occur in the Coastal Ranges of the Chugach and Kenai Mountains.

Most hunts are 1X1, but we also offer 2X1 packages. Base camp conditions vary depending on the hunt you are interested in. The Brooks Range Dall sheep base camp consists of wall tents with cots and a heated shower. Backpack tents are primarily utilized on other hunts. All of our equipment is top of the line quality and in good working order.
